My Reflection On Thinking Critically: Psych 1010
I recently have found a love for the social sciences. Psychology is not only interesting and academically stimulating but can provide information about humanity. It was invigorating to listen to the theories and the labor-intensive research that went into getting more information about the human mind. Psychology not only provides insight to the brain, but also how its pathways and construction affects human cognition and development.
A lot of my critical thinking was thoughts of how psychological elements explained how I function. Throughout the course I found myself “choosing” which theorists and concept models I felt were the best options. Because I personally felt as if I wanted to find the most correct theory I deeply had to think about the other ones to decide which had the most potential to be the best option. There were many areas where I could see multiple answers and possibilities, which made me realize that there really is so much more to discover.
I also found myself making connections to all of my classes. Being a Sociology major, I found myself relating much of the information learned to sociological aspects. I find the more I continue my education the more I link the world together. Because of this my education can only grow as well as the desire to gain even more substantive knowledge.
I believe that throughout my Psychology course the most significant thing I’ve learned is more about myself, my learning style, my reasoning, the way I critically think, but most of all the “whys.” Before I knew how I felt and I knew my experiences but I didn’t have the reasons or ways to explain why. And I think a lot of the time when I did not know “why” I almost felt guilty for the things that I would feel, especially negative emotions. I couldn’t understand why my emotions and reasons were so different than everyone else’s’. But throughout this class I have really gained an understanding of who I really am and how to not only enjoy myself but how to continue to gain a stronger, more positive sense of self.
